The goal of Kandahar Racing is to achieve excellence not elitism in ski racing

To this end Kandahar Racing provides an annual programme appropriate to each individual athlete’s performance level. The camps provide a continuing technical training programme that will develop ski racing potential.

We aim to ensure that our trainees can participate in and enjoy Alpine Skiing and Ski Racing at all levels

Trainers

We have an experienced and motivated team of trainers, headed by Duncan Freshwater, formerly Scottish Alpine Ski Team member and Scottish Alpine Skiing Development Director. He will be joined by Emma Carrick Anderson and Joanna Greig, both recently retired after 10 years on the British Ladies Alpine Team, Carl Ryding, Rob Gulden, Taryn Archbold, Amanda Pirie, Lyndsay Webb, Rob Webb, Mike Barker, James Drake, Dave Morris and current members of the Britsish Alpine Ski Team when they are available. Joanna, Lyndsay, Rob, Mike. James, and Amanda are all former Kandahar trainees.

Our policy is to rotate groups of trainees with a trainer on a daily basis, therefore ensuring that every trainee gets a chance to work with every trainer and vice versa. The trainers have daily meetings to discuss the progress of each trainee. This ensures that the trainers are all working along the same lines and give consistent messages to the trainees. Groups are compiled on skiing ability for the relevant activity, be it gate training, free skiing or powder skiing and trainees are moved between groups according to their needs and abilities. Thus we hope to ensure that each trainee can get to know each trainer and can feel confident in approaching any of the training team for help and advice. Most importantly, we strive to see that the trainees are not put under undue pressure and have fun. Athletes will only perform if they are motivated and enjoy what they are doing.

Log Books are written on a daily basis by the trainees and at the beginning and end of each training week they meet with their trainers to discuss their long and short terms goals, the areas of their progress that they are happy with and the areas that need work. These Log Books are taken home and brought back to each training.
