KANDAHAR RACING

CHRISTMAS TRAINING 2009 - 2010
Week 1: Sunday 13th December to Sunday 20th December 2009
Week 2: Sunday 20th December to Sunday 27th December 2009
HOTEL ERIKA, ARZL, PITZTAL, AUSTRIA
Week 3: Sunday 27th December 2009 – Monday 4th January 2010
GASTHOF, LOSER, PETZEN, AUSTRIA

Week 1 and 2
We are going back to stay in the Hotel Erika in Arzl, at the entrance to the Pitztal Valley in the Austrian Tyrol. We have spent many happy times with Peter and Ushi and I am much looking forward to doing so again. We will be skiing at Hoch Zeiger/Jerzens on a daily basis, but if we have snow problems we can always go to the Pitztal Glacier further up the Valley.

Week 3
We are moving to Petzen, which is in eastern Austria, for the BARSC races. We are going back to stay with the Loser family in the Gasthof Loser in St. Michael ob Bleiburg, but as last year we won’t be able to accommodate parents in this hotel as we won’t have room. We have a 5 minute drive each morning to the race piste.  Please be aware that we are staying from Sunday to MONDAY as we will be racing on Sunday 3rd January and will transfer to airports on Monday 4th January 2010.

Set out below are the details
Transport. Georgina Morris and Rob Webb will drive out in a mini bus from the UK with all the equipment and luggage leaving on Monday 7th December 2009.   If you would like to use this facility there is a charge of £30 for any luggage/all luggage both ways, which is much cheaper than the airlines. All luggage must be delivered to Georgina’s house in London during the previous weekend.

Weeks 1 and 2: You need to book your own flights and Trainees will be met at Innsbruck Airport. There are a number of companies that now fly to Innsbruck including BA and Easyjet. We will meet the various flights. At the end of each week we will deliver trainees back to Innsbruck.   Can I suggest you book the flight as soon as they become available.

Week 3: We will be moving from Pitztal very early on Sunday 27th December 2009 and will be collecting trainees coming into from Salzburg airport from London. We will probably also have a trainer coming into Salzburg. We will be returning to Salzburg on Monday to connect with return flights back to UK.

Cost.   The trainees prices set out in the table below include all training, accommodation and food, lift-pass, transport from airport and management. We can only take bookings for whole of Week 3
Early booking discount of 10% on published price if confirmation received before 20th September 2009
Bookings received after 1st November will incur a 5% late booking surcharge.

Bookings. If you wish to join us during the Christmas training, please return the booking application form to Sue Cohen together with a deposit of £300.00 PER PERSON PER WEEK by 20TH September. Please help us by booking early. Sue will send you an invoice for the balance according to your booking. The balance must be paid by 1st NOVEMBER

Cancellation insurance.   We strongly recommend that you take out cancellation insurance (including cancellation due to lack of snow) as we will not be in a position to offer compensation or refunds, apart from lift pass costs if lift passes have not been purchased.

Trainers and managers.   Jo Pilarska, Rob Webb, Taryn Archbold and Jas Bruce will make up the training team. Georgina Morris will be the manager for all three weeks and will be assisted by Shirley Stevens and Gaynor Moynihan

Kandahar Christmas. We hope that this year we will again be able to have a traditional Kandahar Christmas and parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and other family members will join us and are most welcome. We have stockings, Christmas tree, Midnight Mass (for those who want to go), mince pies etc and loads of laughs. This year we won’t have much of a  New Year, as we will be in the middle of racing, but we will make up for it at Christmas, so pack your glad rags.

Additional information.
The BARSC Championships are a very good opportunity for new racers to gain experience of racing in a less pressured environment than the Easter Championships. We strongly recommend that those new to ski racing have a go at the BARSC races. There will be a full programme of Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super-G for both Junior’s and Children’s categories and there is usually a good race of Minis. All those with no BASS/FIS points (new to ski racing)are strongly advised to attend the BARSC races in order to gain points and therefore an entry to the British Land Junior and Children’s British Championships at Easter.

PARENTS AND BARSC
We have booked all the rooms in the hotel in Petzen, and we have only 27 beds. Therefore we are unable to give parents accommodation in the hotel.

CHRISTMAS RACES 2010 for JUNIORS
Juniors and FIS & CIT races.  Having looked at the FIS race calendar there are some races nearby, which we could attend. Our juniors stand a good chance of entering these events. Snow conditions and numbers will determine whether we can take a group of juniors to these races. We have decided not to budget for this, but to charge parents on a similar basis to any other extra costs, but we would not spend your money without first consulting you. However all those entering International races will need an International FIS licence.

Finally we are all looking forward to a really good Christmas. Do come and join us.
