FITNESS FOR SKI RACING
Skiing at altitude puts extra strain on the human body. Successful skiing often involves   extremely strenuous exercise at high altitude and maximising potential entails ensuring that athletes can work at peak performance levels in an inhospitable environment. This means being fit and well hydrated, drinking at least 2 litres of water a day, monitoring food intake, and maintaining a good level of fitness throughout the year.

Reasons for fitness                         Nutritional needs
Injury reduction

Suppleness

Refined awareness
Minerals – iron etc

Fitness Training on the Camps. This is a key part of the training camps. Each trainee is expected to take part in the fitness training, which will include short jogs/runs, hill walking, circuit training, swimming, skating, stretching and relaxation. The trainers monitor each trainee’s level of fitness and will develop a personal programme which will help further their athletic ability. Trainees are shown the importance of keeping up a level of fitness when not on the camps.
NATIONAL ALPINE SKI TEAM FITNESS TESTS
During the Summer and October trainings every child will have the opportunity to participate in some of the National Team Fitness Tests.  This will give each individual an idea of their fitness level and the levels they have to achieve to be included in the National Alpine Ski Teams.  Every National team member has to pass these fitness tests, whether it is for the British Children's Ski Team or for the World Cup Ski Team.
