DIET and NUTRITION

FOOD IS THE FUEL FOR YOUR BODY
Kandahar Racing training camps are about training the individual athlete to perform at his or her best. Successful athletes of today know that one of the key elements to better performance and achievement is eating a healthy and balanced diet. We try to ensure that all our athletes eat a daily diet including four servings of fresh fruit and vegetables, three portions of protein (meat, fish, cheese and nuts) and three portions of carbohydrates (pasta, potatoes and wholemeal bread). We also ensure that trainees drink at least two litres of water or fruit juice each day and more if the weather is hot, they are training particularly hard or they are training at high altitude.

Foods that are not recommended because they contain substances which considerably reduce the functioning of the body are:

CRISPS OR SNACKS HIGH IN SALT and SUGAR
SWEETS AND CHOCOLATE
COLAS AND FIZZY DRINKS
ANY FOODS CONTAINING HIGH LEVELS OF COLOURINGS, ADDITIVES AND CAFFEINE.

WARNING: If any of these foods are found in the possession of the trainees, they will be confiscated and thrown away.

It is worth noting that in a recent experiment, twin boys, aged 5 who initially obtained identical scores in an IQ test and concentration level test, were put on totally different diets for two weeks. One ate a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, no sweets with additives and no fizzy drinks or junk foods. The other twin was allowed to eat junk food, fizzy drinks, foods containing colourings and additives and sweets. After only 3 days the behaviour and concentration levels of the child eating healthy food had changed for the better and after two weeks his IQ and concentrations levels were 25% greater than his twin brother. FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

During each training we give the trainees a talk on diet and nutrition, on keeping fit, and looking after themselves generally to ensure they fully understand the importance we place on their health and fitness levels.
