LIGHTNING LANDER STIKES AGAIN

Whilst the weather has been heating up throughout the Alps, so have Team Kandahar’s results.  At the end of January, we headed to the British Schoolgirls Races in Flaine. Kandahar was there representing New Hall, Ipswich High and Cheltenham Ladies College.

In the Giant Slalom, Izzy Lander put down two brilliant runs and took the overall win by almost a second and a half!  She also won the second run of the Slalom but sadly hiked in the first run.  It’s all or nothing with this girl!

In the Team Parallel Slalom we had an exciting final with Kandahar vs Kandahar.  New Hall School up against Ipswich High!  It was a very close race and in the end Ipswich took the glory.  Ipswich’s team included, Alexa Elliff, Antonia Durant and Annie Shelley.  New Hall had Izzy Lander alongside Alice and Emily McLeish.

From Flaine, we loaded up the vans and headed to Bormio to start our first full time training block in the lead up to the English Championships.  This proved to be very successful with the kids training in the mornings and doing school work with Ex Olympian Alison Mowbray.

With Izzy newly filled with confidence on the back of her win at the Schoolgirls Races we were excited to get stuck in to these championships.  In a very strong field she proved she has what it takes to ski with the big girls in U16.  Izzy very narrowly missed out on the podium in the Slalom even after a big mistake in the first run, taking a very respectable 4th overall.  She then went on to ramp up the speed to come 6th in the Super G and second in her year of birth.

We are very proud of what she has achieved in such a short space of time.  It’s exciting that we’re getting another opportunity to train again before the British Championships in Tignes where we can hopefully build upon the results that Izzy and the rest of Team Kandahar have already achieved this season.
