Kandahar Racing’s Summer training programme takes place on the Fonna Glacier in Norway, one of Europe’s top summer training locations where snow conditions remain fantastic throughout the summer months. Our management team will provide trainees with the highest standards of professional ski race coaching, fitness training, pastoral care and fun over a 1 week period from 21-28 July 2019.
The training programme will include technique, skills, drills, SL/GS/SG gate training and race simulation with electronic timing. The glacier is open for training from 9am until 4pm and so we can train full days, doubling the training time available compared to glaciers in the Alps. The mountain have given us use of a SG track complete with a small jump for SG/DH training. We will also have an increased focus on Ski Cross training with a Ski Cross track purpose built just for us. Trainees will participate in a full fitness and activities programme every day and evenings will include ski prep, video analysis and theory lessons on other aspects of ski racing and athletic development. The programme caters for young skiers brand new to competitive snowsports, through to experienced athletes with national team aspirations. Here’s a video of last years camp to give you an idea of what to expect.
Matt Shepherd & Jo Ryding will be the camp managers and they’ll be supported on the coaching team by Sam Liddell, Eilidh McLeod, Dan Poth, Ash Breese, TJ Baldwin, Charlotte Gould, Jake Richardson & Mike Barker. Pastoral care will be led by Nikki Jordan, Mick Jordan & Naomi Sadler for the duration of the camp.
To ensure that a progressive and structured training programme can be put in place, trainees must commit to attending the full week duration of the camp. There will also be 2 week or 3 week options starting on 07 July 2019 that will available by invite only.
ACCOMMODATION & COSTS
All inliers will be accommodated at the Folgefonn Gjestetun which is ideally located in the nearby town of Jondal and is a venue used regularly by many Scandinavian ski teams. Inlier costs are inclusive of full board accommodation, lift pass, activities, airport transfer and training fees. They do not include flights or equipment hire. Trainees must have their own equipment (skis, boots, poles & helmet) as Fonna does not have junior race equipment to rent. Outlier costs cover training fees only. We recommend that trainees attend the camp as inliers wherever possible so they can benefit fully from the team atmosphere.
Norwegian flights to Bergen if booked early enough cost under £250pp return (excl bags). The camp travel details that explain exactly which flights to book can be viewed here in due course. Please do not book any flights until you have submitted your online booking and had your place on the camp confirmed.
Places on our Summer training programme are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so please book early to avoid disappointment. The booking deadline is Monday 3rd June 2019. Bookings should be made online at the ‘Book Now’ tab. Upon receipt of online applications – acceptance confirmation and invoices (inc payment instructions) will be distributed. This will allow you to go ahead and book the specified flights.
