Welcome to Mürren – our Alpine home.
Tucked away high in the Bernese Oberland, Mürren is the home of Kandahar Ski Club and is a small, mountain village brimming with charm and character. Sitting at 1650m, it boasts breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and offers a peaceful and traditional Swiss atmosphere that’s a world away from the hustle & bustle of modern life, a real-life Shangri-La. It’s a true hidden gem that in our humble opinion is one of the most beautiful locations on planet Earth! Mürren Tourism offers plenty more information on what the village can offer.
The Home of Ski Racing
It goes without saying that Mürren’s snowsport opportunities are world class. Home to the first ever FIS World Alpine Ski Championships in 1931 (organised by Kandahar), Mürren offers endless miles of pistes, high altitude snow-sure slopes, the second highest lift serviced vertical drop in the world, the steepest cable car in the world, and a lift pass that covers the entirety of the Jungfrau region – giving skiers access to Wengen & Grindelwald on the same pass. If the skiing isn’t enough, you also have swimming pools, hot tubs, curling, tobogganing and plenty of Après ski to use up whatever energy you have left at the end of the day. The Schilthornbahn is the place to go to learn more about the lift serviced skiing and ski passes.
A Special Place for the Kandahar Community
Mürren isn’t just where we train – it’s where the Kandahar story began. The club was founded here at the Palace Hotel in 1924, and ever since, Mürren has been at the heart of everything we do. It’s where many of our members took their first turns on snow, and where lifelong friendships have been forged on and off the mountain. For generations of Kandahar families, Mürren has been a second home – a place to ski, to learn, to race, and to enjoy the mountains in the company of likeminded winter sports enthusiasts.
