Summer Camp

Kandahar Racing’s Summer training programme will take place on the Saas Fee Glacier, classed as one of Europe’s top summer training locations where snow conditions remain fantastic throughout the summer months.  Our management team will provide trainees with the highest standards of professional ski race coaching, fitness training, pastoral care and fun usually over a 2 week period from 12 Aug - 26 Aug 2023 are this years dates. These dates have changed to allow the trainees to complete school face to face and then have optimised training opportunities in the mountain environment.

TRAINING

The training programme will include technique, skills, drills, SL/GS/SG gate training and race simulation with electronic timing. The glacier is open for training from 6am until 2pm and so we can train full days/hours, increasing the training time available compared to some of the glaciers during summer opening. The mountain may open up the us use of a SG track complete with a small jump for SG/DH training if weather permits. Trainees will participate in a full fitness and activities programme every day including rafting, volleyball, hiking and evenings will include ski prep, video analysis and theory sessions on other aspects of ski racing and athletic development. The programme caters for young skiers brand new to competitive snowsports, through to experienced athletes with national team aspirations. Here’s a video of a previous years camp to give you an idea of what to expect.

STAFF

James Bennett will be the camp manager and he’ll be supported by Oliver Wells, Oliver Black, and Simon Wells in the coaching team. Natasha Kingdon will be the house parent and pastoral care throughout the camp

FORMAT

To ensure that a progressive and structured training programme can be put in place, trainees must commit to attending the full week duration of the camp as inliers and we of course accept outliers on a daily basis.

ACCOMMODATION & COSTS

All inliers will be accommodated in local full board Hotel Les Amis in the car-less village of Saas Fee which is ideally located in the nearby the main gondola to the glacier and is a venue used regularly by many WC ski teams. Inlier costs are inclusive of full board accommodation, lift pass, activities, airport transfer and training fees. They do not include flights or equipment hire. Trainees must have their own equipment (skis, boots, poles & hard ear helmet) as Saas Fee only has limited access to junior race equipment to rent. Outlier costs cover training fees only. We recommend that trainees attend the camp as inliers wherever possible so they can benefit fully from the team atmosphere.

TRAVEL

We have two travel options available for the summer camp to Saas Fee:

1. Travel in Kandahar Minbus - £150 return per athlete

   • Departure 12/08/2023 - Meeting Point TBC (Cobham Services or South Mims)

   • Return 26/08/2023 - Drop off Point TBC (Cobham Services or South Mims)

2. Flights from London Luton to Gevena (£225pp return ex. bags)

   • Departure 12/08/2023 - London Luton to Geneva 07:05 - EasyJet EZY2535

   • Return 26/08/2023 - Geneva to London Luton 15:40 - Easyjet EZY2538

For anyone travelling for week 2 only please discuss with us individual travel arrangements as we will have an option for travel from the UK on 19/08/2023 with a coach. BOOKING

Places on our Summer training programme are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so please book early to avoid disappointment. The booking deadline is Monday 1st June 2022*. Bookings should be made online at the ‘Book Now’ tab. Upon receipt of online applications – acceptance confirmation and invoices (inc payment instructions) will be distributed. This will allow you to go ahead and book the specified flights
